Obama is not an idiot. I disgree with most if what he says, but he is far from being an idiot. Obama's biggest short-coming? He is naive, a dreamer, an intellectual, and an overall idealist that wants to make the world a Sesame Street episode for everyone to enjoy.
No single person would disagree that Obama's goal isn't admirable and desirable. (If you don't wish this, you are not human.)
While desirable and admirable, though, Obama's strategy and ethos are extremely dangerous, anti-American, and will put America at risk as a global super power succumbed to Euro-style appeasement.
The WSJ ran a wonderful op-ed last week highlighting Obama's spending plans, with the total to be spent over the next 10-years coming in at a healthy $4.3 trillion. What is most interesting about this total is that Obama plans to execute this plan with no tax increases on 95% of Americans. This is dreaming, fantasy, and dangerous, and a sure fire way to make ensure no second term because even the top 1%, where are majority of tax revenue comes from, couldn't pay for this spending plan with 80% tax rates.
"Read my lips, no new taxes," really back-fired in Bush Sr. and made great campaign material for Clinton. Remember, "It's the economy, stupid."
There is a part of me that wants Obama to be elected, to implement his plan, and to put to bed the idea that America can be run by intellectual dreamers intent on spreading world-peace through socialism and sitting down with terrorists and leaders of terrorists states over coffee, and maybe a Big Mac (remember the Clinton/Arafat/Rabin hand-shake that was going to end the Israeli/Palestinian violence?)
But in the end, its not worth the reward. Just too dangerous. Biden is right. Ask yourself this question when you vote: Who would the terrorist, economic or violent, want to have as the US president? An intellectual dreamer? Or a respected war-hero that understands the world doesn't give a flying shit if they get to eat McDonalds?
I prefer not to vote the same way as a terrorist, and this was why Bush was able to beat Gore in 2004. Too bad Axlerod has done a better job so far in the campaign than the Rove's.
